Loading... Please wait...One thing that I notice when I attend car shows is the lack of attention to detail of some cars. Thousands of dollars are spent on engines and paint jobs but the finer things are often forgotten. One thing in particular is the indicator arm knob, almost everyone Ive seen is faded or broken. Previously the only way to fix this was to purchase a NOS arm from somwhere and given the supply and demand these complete units were sold around the $300 mark. A lot of money just to finish off the interior. So I decided to manufacture my own and offer them to you. These units are spot on and the icons are not heat pressed so they will last much longer then the original ones. $45 and around 20 minutes of your time in the shed will have the job done.
Here is a step by step guide to fitting one of our indicator knobs.

First find a suitable small screw driver to remove the end cap avoiding damage to the cap if possible.
Place the screw driver between the gap and push down and flick the end cap off.
SAFETY CAUTION: Recommend that you wear a leather glove on your right hand when doing this as the end cap comes
off your right hand will slip down and you willl slice the inside of your hand on the exposed steel part.

Now depending on the condition of the arm will determine how difficult this stage will be. Firstly remove the small spring plate and spring, remember to keep these in a safe place to avoid losing them. The steel end piece now needs to come off.

These steel pieces were machine pressed on with a small recess. (See step 4)
This recess needs to be drilled out with a drilll of the appropriate size. Carefully drill out the recess.
Now some steal pieces will just come off without too much force but others will need some work.

Now just slide on the new knob and tap the steel piece back on, its essential to make sure the drill holes line back up so
the knob will fit back in its original position making sure the light icon is on top.

Replace the spring and spring plate and refit the end cap using a touch of super glue. If the end cap is in reasonable condition
all you need to do is lightly sand it back and resrpay it with some black vinyl spray.
Now you have the refurbished arm ready to go back on your XB.
